Celtic Moon Limited Edition Print
If you are familiar with my work, you'll know that I simply love to paint the moon! I am drawn to it so strongly, as though a magnet is pulling me. My daughter often says, "Keep your eyes on the road Mum, not the moon!" Oops!
I had an interesting synchronicity while painting this piece. I had begun the celtic knotwork last week and was thinking to paint the moon in the centre. That weekend, I gave a workshop in Kilkenny and as I drove home to Dublin, I drove past the turn off for a little village called Moone in County Kildare.
A memory came back to me from almost thirty years ago...we had gone into a little old bar in Moone where there was a music in progress. An old man was sitting alone in the corner and he kept looking at me. Eventually, he called me over, and said something like "I know things. Some day you will be a successful artist." I remember scoffing, but also being intrigued by him. He knew nothing about me. I had wanted to go to art college but was told to get a 'proper job' which I had. My dreams had been dashed and I could never have imagined finding a way out of that. I worked as a librarian for over 25 years, never painting at all.
Thirty years later as I drive from the mandala workshop I was hosting in Kilkenny, this memory flooded back. I burst out laughing..."Moone??" really "Moone"??? You couldn't get a more appropriate place name. And then I also realised that Moone is famous for it's Celtic High Cross! And this piece already had the celtic knot work in a cruciform shape in it, and it is remarkably similar in form to the High Cross of Moon. So a lovely story to accompany this piece, which seemed to bring me full circle.
