Meditating on this mandala will awaken your sense of intuition.

This Mandala is entitled 'The Path' and contains a Cretan labyrinth at its centre. Often we rationalize our journey of life as though we are simply going along a straight path as in the path to the front of this piece.

But life meanders and throws us from the straight path at unexpected moments. We have our goals in life that we strive to move towards. The meandering labyrinth holds a single undivided seven-fold path, and unlike a maze, there are no choices to make other than traveling onward through the winding pattern to reach the centre or the goal. The path weaves inwards and the centre seems just within reach, and then it unexpectedly weaves outwards again, but eventually it arrives assuredly at the centre.

This Cretan labyrinth has seven paths corresponding with the seven sacred planets of antiquity, the seven chakras, the seven days of the week, the seven tone musical scale, the seven colours of the rainbow among other such seven-fold meanings.

The labyrinth pattern also suggests the convolutions of our brains and our intestines (thought and gut), the two parts of our bodies that correspond to our consciousness in the physical. The intestine is often referred to as the ‘second brain’, as it has as many nerve endings as the brain itself. Hence this is where we feel our ‘gut feelings’.

All labyrinths are symbolic and connected with myth, symbol, and allegory. At the heart of the labyrinth waits the Minotaur, half human and half bull. Through its winding passageways, the hero Theseus advances toward the midpoint, guided by the inspiration of the priestess-princess Ariadne. When meditating on this mandala, think of the Minotaur as your goal, yourself as the adventuring Theseus allowing yourself to be guided by Ariadne, your gut. Pay attention to what your gut feelings are whispering gently to you. Have faith that you are on the way to your true goal.
