Summer
The style of this piece is neurographic which is extraordinarily therapeutic to create and to look at. The style invites us to draw freeform lines on paper, called neurolines. As the line meanders across the page, it encourages us to relax. It acts as a form of meditation as the pen creates line and shape. We're able to disconnect from the things we're troubled by and focus on the drawing.
I have created this piece on a base of beautiful multicolours in watercolour which really evokes summer for me. The process bypasses the rational thinking mind and able to reach deep into hidden layers of one’s psyche. Your unconscious, ordinarily inaccessible, is opened up. My dreams were very active too during the process! That is because new neural networks are formed in the brain. Dreams intensify. What you thought is impossible suddenly becomes a reality.
The results can range from immediate insights and revelations to changes in your life that take place in the most unusual and creative of ways. Since you’re working with the unconscious, it can be surprising that days later a solution to something seems to pop into your mind seemingly out of nowhere. I also find this to happen by gazing at the works. So just softening your gaze and allowing forms to pop and to recede. You see all sorts of different things. They are extraordinarily meditative.
This mandala is created using watercolour, various pens and metallic paint on the most beautiful paper from Liberties Paper here in Dublin.
