Ginko: The Gentle Protector
This piece was an absolute pleasure to create…a lot of work went into it, and I tried a new technique of painting in the tones in black and white before adding colour. It was a lovely process and I fell into a beautiful stillness and peaceful state.
The centre of it looks as though it is a portal to another world…to another way of being. And surrounding this portal of growth and change is a circle of protection based on the beautiful Ginkgo leaf.
The Ginkgo tree is an object of veneration, a sacred tree of the East, a symbol of the unity of opposites. I love that symbolism as much of my work is about balancing masculine and feminine energies both within and without. The tree is often seen as possessing miraculous power, the bearer of hope and of the immeasurable past, and a symbol of love. Because of all its properties it is associated with longevity and gentle strength.
As we go through life, we embark on many internal and external journeys as we grow towards fulfilling our potential in life. This piece feels like a protective piece along that journey. A gentle protector.
