Amanesis Original Painting
This painting took quite a while! I felt very called to add a lot of detail to this mandala, to really get into the flow of observing and to yield to the simple repetitive motion of pattern which becomes a kind of meditation as you come into a flow state.
The process has been a remembrance of sorts, with strong dreams of other times, some ancient. I have called it “Anamnesis”. In Plato’s theory of epistemology, anamnesis refers to the recollection of innate knowledge acquired before birth. The concept claims that learning involves the act of rediscovering knowledge from within oneself. This stands in contrast to the opposing doctrine known as empiricism, which postulates that all knowledge is derived from experience and sensory perception.
Interestingly too, the Irish word for soul is anam, perhaps it is a remembering of the soul.
It feels apt for the world we live in, based almost solely at this point on rational materialism, with very little room left for the unknown, the mystical, the numinous. As the structures of power appear to be crumbling around us, now is a time to become comfortable with uncertainty, the unknown. It is a time to invite in the receiving of ideas on new ways of thinking and being and of organising the world around us. This requires taking space and time in reflection or mediation, perhaps through art and creativity or through music, or even sport. Anything that takes you out of your head for a while and gives you space to receive, to access your inner knowing and the ancient wisdom held within every cell of your body. Take time away from the barrage of news and information!
The painting measures 80cm x 80cm, acrylic paint and metallic pens on deep edge fine Italian canvas. It is available for sale and costs €1400. I am always open to you paying in instalments if that works better. Email me for details.
